The wonderful alpine mountains of the Engadin offer hiking fans an almost limitless variety of dreamlike enjoyable hikes. In the sunny high valley, it is hard to find a route without a spectacular view. The well-signposted hiking trails lead across lush meadows with colorful mountain flowers, past sparkling blue mountain lakes, or to mighty glaciers and rugged rock formations. Hiking with a view takes on a new meaning here, and because there is so much to marvel at in the Engadin, many vantage points are simple to reach via an easy hike for almost anyone.
The Piz Bernina is the highest mountain in the Eastern Alps with a proud 4049 meters. However, we do not recommend climbing it on a whim, as the ascent is not a mere Sunday stroll even for experienced mountaineers. The best way to admire the summit and the impressive Bernina massif with the famous Piz Palü is from Alp Languard. The alp above Pontresina is easily accessible by the romantic chairlift and is the starting point for some of the most beautiful panoramic hikes that are not too strenuous. For example, the circular route to Chamanna Paradies is recommended, with a sunny terrace overlooking the Bernina Group that invites you to take a coffee break and enjoy a delicious fruit cake. The hike leads through the home of the Albris ibex colony, which is why, with a bit of luck, you may be able to catch a glimpse of the 'King of the Alps,' as the animal is fondly called.
If you are looking for a short, easy hike and don't want to miss out on the spectacular Engadin views and enchanting nature, you will be thrilled by the short circular hike on the Chastè peninsula near Sils Baselgia. The space, the light, and the view over Lake Sils in the direction of Bergell create a unique experience which already enchanted Friedrich Nietzsche years ago. The famous philosopher spent some of his life in Sils, which is why a Nietzsche memorial stone can be found at the end of the peninsula, from where the view over Lake Sils is particularly beautiful. The walk across the peninsula with the fascinating play of light, the sound of the waves, and the spicy air of the mountain forest is balm for both body and soul at the same time.
