Cross-country skiing and powder paradise

Winter Paradise Maloja

Maloja is a sure bet for snow and thus a place where very personal winter fairy tales are written. While there is a lot of hustle and bustle in the big ski resorts, things are more relaxed in Maloja. What is guaranteed here is, above all, sun and snow - basically the ingredients for the perfect winter experience.

Varied cross-country trails

The cross-country ski trails in Maloja take you over the frozen lake, through snowy, quiet forests, and over sunny areas and steep slopes. And don't forget - Maloja marks the start of something great for tens of thousands every year at the end of March. The start of the Engadin Skimarathon spanning 21 or 42 kilometers.

The training ground could not be better than in Maloja. As soon as Lake Sils is frozen and snow-covered, you can glide leisurely towards Isola or Sils. Parallel to this, the undulating cross-country ski trail runs through the forest to Isola. If you turn off before, shortly after the first ascent, past the Maloja campsite, you will come to the cross-country ski trail "La Palza," which is an absolute favorite of all those who already know the trail. The trail is demanding, but the scenery in the forest and past a high moor is a dream. And often you have this beautiful environment all to yourself. At the end of the circular trail it leads either back to Lake Sils or further towards "Orden" - an area with a sunny circular trail. It becomes more demanding for the cross-country skiers who run up to the Lägh da Cavloc, which is not for beginners as steep slopes have to be climbed up and down. If the snow conditions are good, the trail continues for another 2 kilometers from the lake to Plan Canin.

Less hype, lots of powder

The Aela ski area was long considered an insider tip for fun off the groomed slopes. Now it's an insider tip for power seekers, those looking for peace and quiet, families, nature lovers, and sun worshippers. The lift is located a few meters away from the parking lot at Giacometti Sport. A platter lift brings young and old skiers and snowboarders up the mountain - from 1817 meters to 2100 meters. At the top, the view of the lakes of Sils and Silvaplana and towards Val Forno is impressive. A red and a black slope lead back to the start. Freeriders take the path in between, respecting the wildlife protection zone in the direction of travel to the left of the lift and the black slope.

Full of sun

There is also sun at the pony lift, which is not far from Aela. Here the little ones practice their first turns and riding the t-bar lift. Up and down, full of energy - as a family, you simply can't get enough here. You can watch, soak up the sun, and have a drink at the small restaurant. If you need a break from skiing or snowboarding, you can take a sled or a snow tubing ring. Thanks to the lift, which pulls you up the slope together with the ring, children from the age of 5 can enjoy snow tubing on their own. Once at the top, you go down the 80-meter-long snow channel. A short burst of fun, which you can experience many times more.
