These hikes take you through the most beautiful autumn landscapes of the region – from picturesque routes by the lake and cozy strolls to trails in vast valleys. The journey is the destination – and this is especially true for these hikes in the golden Engadin autumn.
The ultimate autumn hike! Hikers follow the Via Engiadina downhill and enjoy expansive views of the lake landscape. The colorful larches beautifully reflect in Lake Sils and Lake Silvaplana. Against this backdrop, the four-hour hike seems to fly by. A particularly worthwhile detour is to Grevasalvas, where the Heidi film was shot in 1978.
From Surlej, the trail ascends in a steep zigzag to Lej dals chöds, the Rhaeto-Romanic name for Hahnensee. Once in a while it is definitely worth taking a break to gaze at the Engadin Mountain panorama surrounding Piz Julier and the lakes in the valley. From Hahnensee, the path continues along the treeline up to Muottas da Schlarigna. From there, the descent to Pontresina is through the fragrant pine forest.
The autumn hike for connoisseurs: take the funicular to Muottas Muragl, one of the Engadin's most popular viewpoints. With a view of the impressive Bernina massif, hikers traverse ancient pine forests and pass gnarled pine roots before reaching Alp Languard after a short climb. The journey is rounded off by a short break at the 'Unterer Schafberg' restaurant and the descent by chairlift to Pontresina.
Val Trupchun is a paradise for wildlife enthusiasts, especially during the deer rut in autumn, when the impressive roar of the stags echoes through the valley. With some luck, you might encounter chamoises, ibexes, and marmots in Val Trupchun. From the Prasüras parking lot in S-chanf, the trail leads through the golden forest and along a high path into the valley and then back along the valley trail. It's the perfect hike for those who want to immerse themselves in the wilderness of the National Park.
"The expansiveness, the light, and the view over Lake Sils towards Maloja are constant companions on this relaxing walk. Fragrant forests, the play of clouds, and the sound of the waves make this hike a sensory experience. Along the way, cozy benches invite you to pause and enjoy. A visit to the Nietzsche Memorial Stone is also a must during the hike.
