While they may be hunting for the biggest Namaycush possible, for many it is primarily about the experience. About spending a few pleasant hours in good company somewhere on Lake Sils on a beautiful day. The day permit can be ordered online - only 30 permits are awarded per day. If required, fishing equipment can be rented from the Murtaröl restaurant in Plaun da Lej. The aim of fishing in winter is to specifically reduce the number of lake trout (Namaycush) introduced into Lake Sils from Canada. Arctic char, grayling and trout should be spared as much as possible. Please read the information sheet on how to distinguish the animals, as the young fish look very similar to Arctic char. And another tip: the fish you are after is usually not found in the 80 m deep middle of the lake, but preferably on the bottom near the shore.
If you decide to give ice fishing a try, there are a few rules you should follow. To avoid affecting the cross-country trails and winter hiking trails that run across the lake, it is important that you only drill holes for fishing in the ice 30 metres away from them.
For hire at the Murtaröl restaurant:
No day is complete without the culinary aspect. At the Murtaröl restaurant, you have the opportunity to buy a cheese fondue to take with you on the lake.
CHF 40 for two or CHF 70 for four people.
When Lake Sils freezes, the ice fishermen in the valley wake up. If you don't mind the cold, you can try your luck. Good luck!
