Child-friendly: that’s the key word when it comes to family holidays. But parents and grandparents, too, want to have a good time and a refreshing change of scene. Find out how three generations can discover new worlds, have little adventures and a lot of fun together here in the Engadin: the natural choice, with relaxation guaranteed!
A peaceful break for the grandparents, time off for the parents and action for the kids? It can be that way, but it doesn’t have to be. At a time when 60 is the new 40, when a mother-of-three can become European triathlon champion and when children are getting a taste for research, everything is changing when it comes to the conventional pattern of family wishes and expectations. Just as well that the Engadin, with its colourful variety of sporting, cultural and wellness attractions, has everything for the perfect multi-generational holiday – and much more, too
but you can have fun with them!
Hard to tell at times who is more excited about a museum visit: the grown-ups or the children? Several venues have a truly multi-generational appeal – such as the Mili Weber House in St. Moritz, a “total work of art” by Mili Weber, the Swiss “fairy-tale artist”. The Museum Alpin in Pontresina, meanwhile, houses impressive displays on the flora, fauna and geology of the mountain world; over in La Punt, the historical Chesa Laudenbacher boasts an enormous collection of trophies including stag antlers, ibex, marmots and other furry residents of the surrounding landscapes. All who love nature will enjoy the Swiss National Park’s visitor centre. The park itself, blanketed in snow, spends the winter in hibernation, but the visitor centre remains open year-round, with a multi-storey exhibition space (800 sq. m) that promises interactive adventures and endless exploration.
Our family ski areas have plenty to suit all tastes: a variety of pistes for all levels of experience, sunny restaurant terraces on which guests of all ages can relax, and dedicated children’s ski areas where young snow lovers enjoy fun and games that will turn them into lifelong winter sports enthusiasts. Visitors can combine some gentle exercise with an enchanting experience of the winter landscape along any of the many prepared winter walking trails; a stroll across the frozen Engadin lakes, especially, is always a magical adventure for the whole family. For a change from playing in the snow and walking across it, families can enjoy a relaxing ride on a horse-drawn sleigh through the sparkling snowscapes – for example, into the delightful Val Roseg. At the end of the ride, at the Hotel Restaurant Roseg Gletscher, a special treat awaits: the legendary dessert buffet!
… just fabulous indoor activities! How about an enjoyable family day out at one of our adventure pool complexes? Or micro-bowling at the Serlas Parc centre, or bowling on the historical wooden alley at the Gasthaus Spinas, for a “tournament of generations”? Visitors are also welcome to borrow games from the games libraries in Samedan or Maloja for a fun evening for all the family.
A ski tour together, a romantic ride in a horse-drawn sleigh, a thrilling toboggan ride – there are plenty of ways that parents can enjoy some special time together, à deux, in the Engadin. Babysitting services and kids’ clubs at Engadin hotels provide the necessary support.
